The Best Investment for Hard Times

The financial crisis that hit the economy was something of a surprise. Like the biblical thief, it struck when we were least expecting it. It took most of us by surprise. I could remember that at that time I was thinking about buying a lakeside rest house. I could barely afford the place but I was optimistic that I could earn and borrow for what it would cost me and then the crisis hit. All of s udder our company was cutting costs and we have to accept huge cuts on our paychecks.

We did not like the idea of cutting down on our paychecks and so we told the management of the company. They told us that they have no choice. A lot of my fellow workers would have none of that. They resigned but I stayed on. After a month I was jobless too. The company had to do some serious cutbacks. I would have been willing to take my old job for half of what they used to pay us. That’s the reality of today’s world.

Now I’m working for a fraction of my old pay and I’m glad to have a job. Most of the guys that I worked with are still unemployed right now. what’s more troubling is that most of them lost their life savings. They thought that they were doing fine in their investments when they had a sudden and rude wake up call. No one is safe from the reach of the economic crisis. What they have saved and worked for all their lives was melted all of a sudden right before their very eyes. That was very unfortunate but that is what had happened.

I want to learn from their mistakes. I still have a small amount in savings and I want to invest it in the safest way possible. I did some research and it seems that closed end municipal bond funds is the best option for someone like me. What’s so great with the best closed end municipal bond funds is that they are not taxed by the local government. In some cases the federal government even exempts them from paying taxes. This is the reason why these bond funds are the favorite forms of investment of the rich people. Now if the rich and mighty thinks that municipal bond funds are a safe form of investment there must be some truth into that.
