How A Memory Foam Topper Will Help You Sleep Better

It’s no fun suffering from insomnia or not being able to sleep through the night without interruption. There are many possible reasons why we may not sleep well – poor physical fitness, lousy lifestyle, stress, illness, etc. But if we eliminate all these as the cause of our sleep problems, what else is left?

Our sleeping environment! This includes our beds, the bedroom itself as well as factors outside the bedroom. The easiest to resolve is obviously our bed. How do we know whether the problem is our bed? Well, that’s actually pretty easy to figure out, you know? Just ask yourself – is your bed soft and comfortable? If the answer is NO, then you know that is one reason you are not sleeping well.

You may think that’s common sense, but many causes of sleep disturbances can be discovered and fixed through common sense. So why are you still not sleeping well? Alright, so your problem is your bed. Let’s say it is too firm. Can you sleep on a soft mattress, then? Some of us can’t. When we grow old, our backs need more support and we need a firm mattress to prevent waking up with a backache. If we had a couple thousand dollars to spare, we could use it to buy a high quality spring coil mattress or a water bed. But if we don’t, we have to find another way. One way is to lay a memory foam topper on top the firm mattress.

The memory foam mattress pad makes the firm mattress more comfortable, but does not take away its ability to support our backs. You may doubt that such a wonderful device could really exist. But a memory foam pad is not like those magnetic mattress scams. A memory foam topper pad is just a thin mattress, but it is made of memory foam. Memory foam is something that NASA invented in the 1960s. The original, official mandate was to make a material that could be used in the ejection seats of fighter jets. America had been losing too many pilots to serious injuries in emergency ejections. The force of the ejection was just too great for the human body.

But memory foam solves this problem by absorbing the force harmlessly. You may wonder what this has to do with your bed. Well, the gravity you feel is one manifestation of this same force. When you lie on top of a memory foam topper, it absorbs the force of gravity on your body so that you feel much more comfortable. But this much, a soft cotton or down-filled mattress could also do. The extra bit that makes it useful to us is the ability of a memory foam topper to support the small of our back and our waist. So we get the best of both worlds.

Is this guaranteed to fix your insomnia? If a firm mattress is the cause of your problem, then yes.
