Blood Sugar Levels And Sugar Addiction

A lot of people ask questions about health like what are normal blood sugar levels? Though measurements may vary, some specified range is recommended to be maintained especially by people who describe themselves as having a ‘sweet tooth.’ While some may just laugh at it and just take it as normal, on the contrary, it is a serious problem and may be develop into an addiction just like drug or alcohol. Sugar or carbohydrate addiction follows the same pattern as other forms of addiction because the same part of the brain is involved.

The addiction pattern involves an increasing amount of sugar or carbohydrate intake followed by withdrawal symptoms especially when removed from the diet and then may include an urge to go back to indulging again once given the chance to do so. This pattern may mimic signs of drug or alcohol dependency as sugar and carbohydrates can cause some imbalances in the brain due to alterations in the functions of neurotransmitters. Drug and alcohol abuse works the same way as sugar and carbohydrate addiction because they all cause an elevated level of neurotransmitters that makes people feel good for a short time only. This may also make it a little difficult for people to maintain normal blood sugar levels at all times.

When the effects of high sugar or carbohydrate wears off, the neurotransmitters level drops and people may not feel so good and may want to get rid of this bad feeling by eating more sugary foods or carbohydrate rich foods to achieve the same feeling again. When this becomes a cycle, then people will find themselves into sugar and carbohydrate addiction. This behavior may be socially acceptable unlike drug or alcohol addiction but may pose some health hazards in the end. Constant elevated glucose levels in the blood because of addiction may also cause obesity, diabetes and weak immune system among others. If people know something more about what they eat, then they will know some answers to their health questions just like what are normal blood sugar levels to be maintained and not be to get caught into sugar or carbohydrate addiction.
