Are Balloon Roman Shades Right For You?

Choosing The Perfect Shade

After spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on your new home, taking the time to carefully consider your window treatment options is always a good idea. With the thousands of options available, its difficult to even determine what fits your taste and style. However, as a rule of thumb, if you would like to have a contemporary decor, the trend is moving towards simple yet elegant window treatments like window shades. Window shades differ from traditional curtains and drapes because they are interior mounted rather than hanging from brackets and rods, and they have a much simpler style to them than the elaborate layers of traditional curtains.

Although there are hundreds of styles of shades, there are two types of modern shades that are extremely popular right now in interior design.

  • Roman Shades – Roman shades come in a variety of styles within their genre, but in general they are characterized by a single sheet of fabric that is drawn up from the window with a simple draw string mechanism.
  • Balloon Shades – While balloon roman shades are similar in operation they are have a lot more “flare” than traditional roman shades. Whereas roman shades fold under themselves to draw up, balloon shades scallop outwards to create a more stunning dimensional effect.

Reasons To Buy Balloon Shades

If you are hesitant to take the leap into contemporary design, balloon shades are the perfect middle ground for your home. Their interior mounting system makes them seem minimalistic and continuous against the wall, but their ballooning effect can add a personal touch to your home’s decor. They are also extremely affordable. Even custom roman shades are much more affordable than most other window treatments including curtains and plantation shutters. However, all shades are limited in their control of light, ventilation, and privacy so be aware that the savings do come at a cost.
